About the name
In John Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress, the Wicket Gate is the narrow entrance where the journey truly begins. Christian is sent toward it by Evangelist, knocks, and is welcomed through by the keeper named Goodwill. The gate is the threshold between the City of Destruction and the way home.

Charles Spurgeon loved this image so much he wrote an evangelistic booklet titled Around the Wicket Gate, and reminded seekers that grace stands at the threshold:
